Review - The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachael Joyce
While it is an unlikely pilgrimage, it is also an unlikely story. If you are looking for adventure, fantasy or action this book is not for you, but if you are looking for something that will touch your heart in a thousand ways, this is a fabulous read.
Harold is retired, disillusioned and very unimpressed with life when he recieves a short letter informing him of a terminally ill work collegue - one he has not seen for over 20 years. He does the right thing and makes an effort to reply, yet instead of dropping it into the post box he decides to deliver it by hand. This might not sound so exciting to most but it involves a long and extremely arduous walk ... one that Harold is ill-prepared for, in more ways than one.
I loved this book even though I had to find - and use - several tissues at the end. It makes one think and that, to me, is always a good thing.
I give it 5 stars ... no arguement, and if you choose to take it up, you will not be disappointed. Happy reading.
